日本の神話は正直まったく興味がなかったんだけど、これは読みやすく面白かった。
女でありながら神でもあるイザナミの苦しみ、人間であるナミマやマヒトの嫉妬、欲・・・・・
描かれている感情は桐野夏生が得意とする世界観そのものです。

神様ってすべてに平等で愛にあふれている存在かと思いきや、人間以上に人間的な感情をもっておられるかのように描かれている。
こんなこと言ったらおこがましいかもしれないけど、女としてイザナミの苦しみと葛藤は痛いほどに理解できました。
神と神の話であるけれど、根本的には現代の私達となんら変わらない男と女の話なんです。

神は真の神であると同時に、真の破壊者でもある。
最後に救いを求めたイザナキを冷たく切り捨てたイザナミ。
神であっても、人間であっても、やはり女の情念は恐ろしく深い。

最近の桐野先生の作品は、
終わり方が強引なものが多かったのですが
女神記に関してはそういう感想は持ちませんでした。

風景描写もよく、題材もよい。
桐野先生独特の読みやすさも健在。
今回は毒舌もそうでもなく、
色んな意味でいやらしさの少ない作品だと思います。
古事記に興味がわいてきました。

イザナギ、イザナミの話を、ここまで生々しく、愛と憎しみと執着を絡ませながらも、その巧みな描写で冒涜とはまったく感じ得ない筆力はさすがです。相当な下調べもされているでしょうし、重厚感がありました。すべてのシーンにおいて風景が浮かんできます。今まで＜女神＞というのがどういう存在であったのか、深く想像をする機会がなかったので、神であり、女である、という存在にスポットを宛てたところもさすが。しかし、最終的な読後感は「女って力を持っていてもこんなに悲しいものなのね」というようなところに行ってしまい…寂しいやら、せつないやら。
