小川洋子さんの小説は、常に喪失感があります。今、ここにある肉体さえも、実存するのかしないのか、
あやふやな気がする。私はそこに恐怖を感じ、同じように真理を見た気になるのです。
目に見えているものは、ほんとうにあるのか。私の肉体はそんなに儚いものなのか。
でもだからこそ人間は一瞬の美しさを放てるのかもしれません。
とても好きな短編集ですが、自己模倣といっては言い過ぎですけど、
いつもの静かになにかが進行していく世界観が、少し予定調和に描かれているような気がしたので、
星はひとつ欠けました。
けれど、すばらしい小説であることには代わりはないです。

冷たい平均台の上をソロリソロリと静かに歩いている感覚。
右にも左にもどちらにも落下する可能性を秘めている。着地点によって大きく変容していく主人公達。
そんな彼らに作者の視点は静かであたたかい。
各章に添えられたイラストも秀逸で作品に奥行きを与えている。

小川洋子さんの静謐で独特の世界観に虜になってしまった私は幾つかの作品や対談集を読ませて貰いました。

肉体の一部が欠けてしまったりエロティックな表現は、人によって好き嫌いがあるかもしれません。私も小川さんの文章が好きな一人ですが全てが好きなわけではないです。

たとえばこの作品の中で教授と不倫している愛人が出てくる作品はなんか本能的に嫌なんです。中年の女性が男性を独占したい欲望に駆られる話など、ゾッとしてしまう（その意味では上手だと思うのですが･･･何も爽快さだけが文学だはないので）。でもＥ．Ｂの出てくる作品は好きです。子供のようなエレベータボーイとそこに勤めるウェイトレスの女の子の交流はイノセンスでプラトニックな雰囲気の恋愛を思わせる。

グロテスクと感じるかリリカルと感じるかは人によるけど、とにかく感性をや想像力をフル回転させてくれる数少ない作家さんだと思う。個人的な意見になってしまうが、本当の本好きが行き着くのはやはり小説だと思う。雑誌でフィクションが好きだと書いていた若いモデルの子を見たが、読書の最初の取っ掛かりとしてはいいけど、いつか本物の小説も読んでほしいと思う。
