恒川光太郎さんの文章をあまりに美しく、読んでいるとついついこの世にいることを忘れてしまいそうになります。
1973年生まれのまだ若い作家なのだけど、この年齢でこんなに雰囲気のある世界を構築できるなんて素晴らしい！
穏という町の設定も味わい深いし、
風わいわい・闇番・墓町・獅子野・・・次々と現れる不思議な存在に読んでてワクワクします。

けど、「夜市」や「秋の牢獄」に比べるとちょっと荒い感じは否めない。
前半はあくまで穏を舞台にした賢也という少年が中心となる物語なのだけど、途中からそれとは別に茜という少女の物語も描かれます。
こちらは私達の住む現代に似たような世界が舞台なので、
せっかくの幻想的な世界に俗世界的なものが混雑してしまい、なんだかいい雰囲気が損なわれてしまうのです
それだけでなく、このへんから話は意外な展開に転がり、しかも急ぎ足で進んでいくので、
なんだか読者はおいてきぼりを食うような寂しさに襲われそう・・・。
いまひとつ惜しい作品でした。
が、やっぱりこの人の世界観は素晴らしいので、これからの読み続けたい作家です。

「夜市」、「風の古道」に続く、私たちの住む空間から少しずれた空間（私たちからは決して見えない）に暮らす人々の物語。著者の描く空間は、もちろん創作上のものだが、実は今でも日本のどこかにあるのではないか、とそんな気にさせてくれ、気がつけば著者の描く世界の住人の一人になっている自分を発見する。
今回も、穏、雷季、風わいわい、墓町、闇番、鬼衆、と魅力的な設定、登場人物により飽きさせない。プロットも主人公の物語に、姉の失踪の話、鬼衆の話が、時間、空間をこえて進み、前二作より複雑な構造になっている。主人公が「穏」を出るまでの前半は、「夜市」にもあった幻想的な妖しさをもつ、イメージの世界を十分堪能できる。しかし、主人公が「風わいわい」と一緒に「穏」から逃走する後半は、現代社会が投影されすぎている感じがして、前二作ほど「異空間で遊ぶ」ことはできなかった。
ただ、次作も是非読んでみたいと思わせる作品にはかわりはない。

ずっとこの話が終わって欲しくないと思いながら読み進めていました。
風わいわいや陰（おん）の世界をまた続けて欲しいです。
続編が出て欲しいと切に願って止まない一冊です。
