5.0 out of 5 stars 最後までよむと、胸があつくなり奥行きを感じる物語, 2004/8/7
　トルコに考古学の研究のため留学した主人公・村田。同じ下宿先で知り合う友人達との日常と友情の物語。

「私は人間だ。およそ人間に関わることで私に無縁な事は一つもない…」
と、友人ディミィトリスは言う。この台詞がこの物語のキーを握っているような気が私にはする。

　人種や国が違う者ばかりが集まる村田の下宿先。文化も肌の色も宗教も違う人々が、人間として心を通わせる。考え方の違いなどで反目し合うものもいるが、結局はどこかでつながっている。
　この物語は今から１００年前の設定だが、現代も戦争の絶えないこの世界で「…国とは？」と自問する村田の心は、そのまま私の心に問い掛けてくる。

　物語に登場するオウムの存在はときにユニークで、ときにとても感動的で印象深い。

　読み終えて、胸が熱くなり久々に厚みのある物語に出会った気がした。

梨木さんの本の中で一番好きです。
もはや私のバイブルの一つです。
本当に素晴らしい。
これは「家守〜」に登場した、綿貫の友人で考古学者の村田の、土耳古滞在記録です。
異国の、宗教も言葉も生活も違う人々との触れ合いのなかで、村田のいい意味での「日本人らしさ」が光っていて微笑ましいです。

そして全ての梨木作品がそうであるように、もうラストがたまらない！！
というより、ラストに来て、ここまでの全てのエピソードが堪らなくなるなるんです。
オットーの優しさ、ディミトリスの気遣い、ディクソン夫人の母性、ムハマンドのいれるコーヒー、そして鸚鵡の放つ絶妙な一言。
全て全て愛おしくて堪らない。
村田の過ごした土耳古での歳月は、掛替えの無い友人に囲まれ、異文化と触れ合い、学問に没頭した、まさに理想の青春だったのではないでしょうか。

物語の始まりとは考えられないくらい、ラストが衝撃的でした。
彼らの存在は、このラストシーンがあるからこそ、強く激しく心に残ります。
こうして異文化に触れ、激動の時代を生きた人はきっと居たに違いない…。
それに比べ、自分は今何をしているのか。
色々と考えさせられるお話でした。
時代と場所を越えて、強く結びつく友情に憧れます。
