白夜行、幻夜を髣髴させる何十年に渡り、不浄な運命に振り回せる男の物語。

白夜行、幻夜が圧倒的だったからかもしれないが、この2作ほどのスケールはない。しかし、東野作品の叙事詩的かつ人間のダークサイドの描写力に魅力を感じる人なら是非読むべきだと思う。

裕福な家庭の息子・田島が、祖母の死をきっかけに転落して行くストーリー。
祖母の死が毒物によるものではないかという噂が田島家を不幸へと陥れることになり、一方、田島はその噂によって殺人への興味を抱き始めることになる。
そして、黒い運命の相手である小学校時代の同級生・倉持によって彼の運命は次第に狂わされて行く...。

全400ページ強ありますが、正直読むのが辛くなり途中で何度かやめようと思ったことがありました。
主人公である田島に共感できなかったこと、彼の倉持に対するふがいなさに私自身が苛立ってしまったこと、暗いストーリーに飽きてしまったことなどが理由です。

ラストになりある衝撃的な事実が分かるのですが、全体的にストーリーに無理があるように感じました。
「殺人の門」は、好みが分かれる作品ではないかと思います。

読み始めると、止めることの出来ない魅力を持った文章です。
ただ、イマイチ腑に落ちない点もあったりして…何ともいえません。

東野さんの緻密すぎる構成は、好き嫌いが分かれるところだと思います。
心理サスペンスの好きな方なら、楽しめる話だと思います。
ただ他の作品と違って、底なしの地獄に引き込まれる話です。

その辺を覚悟して読めば、結構楽しめるかもしません。

東野さんの軽快な話が読みたい…そう思うのは、私だけでしょうか？
