第三回本格ミステリ大賞受賞作。
「乙一の個性と本格の手法の結びつきが、もっとも新鮮かつ衝撃的」
と北村薫さんが帯で表現されていますが、まさにその通り。
乙一さんの本を読んだことがある方ならわかると思いますが、
あの乙一さんの筆致で描かれる独特の世界の中に、
薄気味悪い暗黒系の世界観が混じりあって、
なおかつ筆者があとがきで言うように、
今まで以上にミステリ的側面を意識して書いたという本書は、
新鮮で衝撃的でした。
ちなみに、題名にある「ＧＯＴＨ」とは、
人間の暗黒部分に惹かれるものたちの、という意味合いですので、
題名が形容するように、人間の暗黒部分が書かれています。
「犬」「土」「声」には、見事に乙一さんの思惑にひっかかってしまいました。
人間の暗黒部分に触れていく描写の仕方、一つの事件を終わらせる構成、
乙一独特の手法は「ＧＯＴＨ」の全てに芽吹いています。

異常殺人に深い関心を抱く主人公。しかし自ら犯すわけではなく、犯人を突き止めて警察に突き出すわけでもない。ただ見たい。ただ知りたい。その欲求の元に動く、限りなく黒に近い傍観者。彼が見つめるものは恐ろしいが、その瞳自体もまた恐ろしい。けれども、読み手を強く惹きつける。プロットがしっかりしていて、結末へと結びつける伏線が見事。ミステリーに興味のある人には、是非読んでもらいたい。

人によって好みが分かれる本だと思いますが、私の中でベスト入りした本です。

主人公は殺人現場を歩いたり猟奇殺人などの記事を集めるのが趣味な男子高校生。
だからと言って気持ち悪い話なのかと言ったらそういうわけでもなく、なんとなく夢を見ているような不思議な気分になります。

確かに死体の描写は生生しいところもありますが、それ以前に話が面白いのです。

そして乙一さんと言えばやはりラストのどんでんがえしですよね。
くやしいことに、最後の「声」ではまんまとやられました。
先を読もうとすると返って読めないんですよね。

まだ乙一さんを知らない方も、この本を読んでいない方も、是非お勧めです。

一度はこのどんでんがえしで悔しい思いをしてみて下さい。きっとハマります。
