他のレヴュアーの評価は低いようだが、私は大いに楽しめた。
この作品はウルトラマンやウルトラセブンの基本設定を
SF的に考証して描くとどうなるか実験している時点で
ジョーク小説である。
また、不必要に細かくグロテスクな人体破壊の描写と
必要のない人物造形の大胆な省き方がじつにB級ホラー映画的で良い。

全体としていろいろなジャンルの批評にもなっている。
（SF、ホラー、特撮、エヴァンゲリオン、カルト、などなど）
本の腰巻の惹句、「超・ハード・SF・ホラー革命」という表現は
愛しつつも笑って他のエンターテイメントを斜めに見ている
この本の立脚点を良くあらわしていると思う。

「光の国」（プラズマ）から来た宇宙生命が、誤って旅客機を墜落させ、地球人に寄生しながら変身して敵と戦う、などというのはまさしく『ウルトラマン』です。キノコのように増殖する人間もどきは、『マグマ大使』からですか。あと、当時テレビで見た『怪獣王子』とかを思い出しました。

小林氏はこのなかで「生命」とは何かということに答えています。最終的には、あの『玩具修理者』との接点も...
