長編シリーズとして構成されているので、次巻へ続くという形で、
いいところで終わります。

あらすじは、人類が大戦をきっかけに、機械から竜との共存による文明になった世界。
竜は人間そっくりになれたり、契約すると竜の力を人間に渡せたりする謎の存在。
竜と契約した人間が軍事と警察を担い秩序を保ってきたが、機械文明を再興しようという
国が決戦兵器により、他国へ侵略。国を失った皇子が復讐のため、謎の竜の皇女に従い、
死んだ神童の兄の名で、騎士養成所へ入学。

イラストレーターは椎名優さん、
主人公が爽やかで人当たりがいいので、ドロドロの復讐のためには何もかも差し出す話ではないです。

この作者の本は初めて買いましたが、面白かったです。
内容は超ベタな展開。

『大国に滅ぼされた小国の王子がただひとり生き残り、復讐のために優秀だった兄と入れ替わってとある学校に行く』

簡単に書くとこんな感じ。かなりベタなストーリーですよね。でも登場人物は個性豊かで、ひとりひとりキャラがしっかりとたっています。

ストーリーは主人公は復讐復讐言っていません。もちろん復讐を誓ってるのでその心は確かなものなのですが、どろどろせずちょっと軽い感じが私的には○です。

あと読みやすいのも○。
こういうファンタジーものの第一巻でやる、いわゆる『固有名詞覚え』が面倒じゃない。例えば『竜脈』といったものが人に流れるらしいですが、何と問われるとわからないけどインスピレーションで雰囲気はつかめますよね。他にも竜といったイメージしやすい名詞が多いので、とても読みやすかったです。

次巻も期待しています。

新シリーズ第1巻である本巻では、主人公ジャン･アバディーンがティアナレルドという少女に出会って騎士学院に入学し、“竜”と契約する為の条件である『模擬戦』を終えるまでが描かれています。

第1巻ですので、主要キャラクターの紹介と今後の伏線を張ることが主です。
戦争によって肉親を失った｢落ちこぼれ｣のジャンが類稀なる能力の片鱗を見せた時にティアナが語った｢戦争へは行きたくない――｣という言葉。
かつての戦争に参加したとき彼女に何があったのか。
その言葉を聞いたとき、復讐を誓ったジャンはどうするのか。

まだまだ先は読めません。　今後の展開に注目です。
