立ち読みで図らずも号泣した「毎日かあさん４」の後で「いけちゃんとぼく」を読んでしまったせいか、涙はでませんでしたが（人はしょっちゅう泣くのじゃない！）、彼氏が涙ぐんでいました。さすがは「女の無頼派は西原一人で十分」といしかわじゅんに言わしめた西原さん。いしかわじゅんは、「心理的に高度な内容は活字でないと現せない」と書いた紫門ふみのエッセイを「それはあなた（柴門）の漫画家としての力量の問題で、漫画を小説の下に置くような発言は許せない」と批判したそうな。
確かに「いけちゃんとぼく」ひとつをとっても、たかが絵本、されど絵本。本人は「下達するタイプ」と謙遜していますが、「毎日かあさん４」「いけちゃんとぼく」「うつくしいのはら」を読めば西原さんに漫画家としての力量があることは間違いないです。思いだしただけで泣いてしまうような「心理的に高度な内容」を描けるんですもの。

ぼくとふしぎないきもの「いけちゃん」との交流。
しかし、この人（西原さん）は心理描写がうまい。
ぼくが大人になるにつれて存在感を薄める「いけちゃん」

そして最後の最後で読者は「いけちゃん」が何者かを知る。
そして、「いけちゃん」の正体を知ってからもう一度読み返す。
所々に散りばめられた「いけちゃん」の言葉に深く感動して涙があふれる。

大人が読むべき絵本。
二度以上読み返さなければならない本。
初めて西原さんの作品を読んだが、これほどのストリーテラーだったとは。
素晴らしい。

最初読みはじめたときは、
ほのぼのするけどちょっとぬるいなー
過去の西原さんの作品をある程度読んでいる人間からすると、既視感の強いエピソードが多いなあー
単価も高いし、コマでかいし、何かコスパ考えるとちょっとなー
などと思うのですが、
その油断した状態で最後数ページをめくると、途端に涙が噴出します。
びっくりするほど泣きます。共感できなくても泣きます。

この本を読む前に「パーマネント野ばら」を読んでいるとさらに泣きます。

鴨志田さんのご冥福を心よりお祈りします。
