あなたの作品は、いつも私の人生の指針であり続けました。
「Ｆ式蘭丸」によって、あの訳分からん青春時代の混沌を、私はなんとか乗り越えることができたような気が致します。

「草冠の姫」に描かれた、主人公の姉のようなひとになりたい、と、私は思いましたし、なによりあなたのいろんな作品に登場する、割烹着姿が良く似合うお母さんのようになりたい！と思って生きてきました。
そのあなたが寡作になられ、私自身も今、思春期を迎える子を持つ親となって、本当に久しぶりにこの本と出逢いました。
サバは死んだのですね。
私も１８年連れ添った猫を、数年前に亡くしました。
大病をされて、作品に登場する自画像も御年なりの落ち着いた雰囲気に変わられましたね。あなたと共に、私も年齢を重ねました。
タマの猫疥癬もすっかり治ったことでしょう、一体どんな個性を持つ子に成長したのでしょうか。

久しぶりにあなたの世界に浸って、私はおおいに寛ぎました！
そして、少し泣きましたよ。
あなたとそして私自身の、もう過ぎ去ってしまった時間への懐かしさで。

　漫画家大島弓子氏の猫との生活を描くエッセイ漫画、第二巻。この巻のメインは大島氏の闘病記（癌の切除手術とその後定期的に入院して行う抗癌剤治療）、それと新たに２匹の子猫達を迎え入れた顛末である。

　普通、飼い猫に避妊去勢手術を施したら猫は殖えない。しかもヒトの側も、自分の経済状態や体調不良をおして飼う頭数を増やそうとはしない。

　と、思うだろうが、筋金入りの猫飼い達は知っている。きっと多くは身に覚えがある。シーズンになると、仔猫は落ちているのだ。道ばたや公園に。しかも衰弱して、助けを求めている場合が少なくない。
　そんなのに出くわしたら、やっぱり「面倒見よう！」と思うよなあ。

　大島氏の場合は、入院中と自分の身に何かあった場合の事後を含めてお願いし!ているＮさんという方がおられたこと、先住猫のうちグーグーは真に面倒見の良い仔猫好きだったこと、退避場所として近くに仕事場があったことなど、恵まれた条件もあったのだろうが。

　それにしたって、猫疥癬まみれでしかも盲目の仔猫なんて、そうそう面倒見られるもんじゃありません。しかも抗癌剤治療中で無理のきかない時期に。

　幸いにして大島氏は癌治療を乗り切り、猫多頭飼い生活に落ち着かれているとのことだが。
　氏の快癒を心から喜ぶと共に、深く同情を込めて肯くことだ。

　そうだよなあ、世話も色々大変だって分かってても。迷い仔猫は拾ってしまうよねえ。

作者ご自身の闘病生活を軸に、新入りの猫ちゃんたちのことが情愛豊かに描かれています。エッセイ漫画というと安直な感じがしますが、大島さんのやさしさ、強さ、人を見る視線が素晴らしく、下手な小説よりも深い感動を呼びます。（といって感動を押し売りしているわけではありません。）長年に亘り、ここまで作品のレベルを保ち続けておられる大島さんは、本当に凄いです。先に出版されていた同題名のものを読んでいなくても十分に楽しめます。一連の飼猫エッセイシリーズの中でも、一番と言っていいくらい素晴らしい作品だと思いますよ。
