有名な小説を漫画化する場合、作画が原作のイメージからかけ離れてしまい失望するケースは多い。
しかし、本作品はその逆で、あの「横溝正史」をよくぞここまで描き切った…と脱帽してしまうほどの素晴らしい出来栄えである。

横溝一流の独特の世界観、退廃の中に漂う壮絶な妖艶さ…余すところなく再現されており、白黒なのに画面から色彩が漏れ出てくるようにさえ感じられる。
殺人現場の壮絶な描写も逃げを打つことなく、且つただスプラッタにするというわけでもなく、実に見事に描かれている。

決して格好よくはないけれど、でも不思議と惹かれてしまう金田一探偵もイメージぴったりだ。
横溝正史を読んだことのない方にも、ぜひ読んでもらいたい。

アメリカから帰った金田一が初めて探偵として挑む密室殺人事件。そこには本陣という由緒ある家柄に絡む、人の欲望。うーんこれぞ横溝正史の世界というのを見事に原作にほぼ忠実に（あるいは描ききれない部分が多分にあるがめいっぱい詰め込んだ）作品!!

5.0 out of 5 stars ＪＥＴ版「本陣殺人事件」, 2008/12/2
名家の婚礼初夜、離れで寝ていた新郎新婦が殺害された。

離れの建物にはしっかりと戸締りがなされ、しかも、
周囲は雪で覆われており、いわば二重の密室状態だった。

にもかかわらず、犯人が立ち去った足跡は見当たらず、
凶器の日本刀のみが離れの外に残されていた……


大掛かりで複雑な機械トリックが特徴の本作。

普段ミステリを読まない人が、本作を読めば、犯人のあまりに旧弊な犯行動機も含め、
「なんでわざわざ、そんなことすんの？」と思うんじゃないでしょうか（ｗ


しかし、ミステリ的にみれば、純日本家屋の中で、あくまで「和」の道具立て（琴、
日本刀、鎌など）によって密室を構成してみせた本作の歴史的意義は大きいです。

そして、そうした日本的なモノがそれぞれに帯びる象徴性が捨象され、単純な機能に
解体されることによってトリックとして再構成されるメカニズムこそ、ミステリの勘所です。


我々は、横溝作品といえばつい、おどろおどろしさや猟奇性ばかりをイメージしますが、
あくまでそれは演出の一面にすぎず、伝統的な和の意匠が、ことごとく抽象的なロジック
へと還元されていく、ギャップや異化効果にこそ、その真骨頂があるといえます。
