 『綿の国星』では、夢と現実を自在に行き来する「チビ猫」に誘われて、読者はいつでもページを開くだけで内なるその惑星にするりとワープできた。しかし、今回は著者はもちろん読者も、そして猫も人間世界にワープなどしない。

   グーグーとのペットショップでの出会いから2番目の猫のビーを拾ういきさつなどが、あくまでも冷静に客観的に語られる。猫への過剰な感情移入もなければ、ファンタジックなデフォルメも皆目ない。その意味では物足りなさを感じる大島弓子ファンも少なくないかもしれない。しかし、新しい猫たちとの距離を平静に保つことで、かけがえのない「サバ」（大人になった「チビ猫」）の死による喪失感を癒している著者の心情を痛いほど感じることができる。（土肥 菜）

著者の愛猫サバには特別な思い入れがあった。
昔、うちにいた犬とほぼ同じ年代に生まれ同じような年齢の頃に亡くなった。
犬のようなサバと猫のような私の犬…
サバとの別れに対する描写が読者にとって少し淡白すぎる内容に思えるかも知れないが、
同じような目に遭った者にとっては充分すぎる描写である。

著者がグーグーやビーと出会えたのは幸運だと思う。
「2番目の猫はトクである。死んだ猫の分まで大切にされる」
それもこれもきっとサバが見守っているから…
私の犬も私を見守ってくれているんだろうな。

読み出したとたんに涙でなかなか次が読めませんでした。
愛するものが旅立ってしまうということがどんなに悲しいことか、愛の大きさの分だけ後悔の大きさもはかりしれないほどに・・・。
そしてどんなに後悔しても元に戻ってやり直すことができない苦しさ・・・。
大島弓子さんの大切な家族「サバちゃん」へのそれはそれは大きな愛が伝わってきました。
そしてそんな大島弓子さんのもとにやってきた「グーグーちゃん」との毎日。
「ぐーぐーちゃん」に振り回されながらも元気を取り戻していく大島弓子さんの色んな気持ちが、
ほんわかタッチの漫画で描かれていて、暖かくて、面白くて、優しくて、とても良かったです。

１３年と５ヶ月と１日いっしょに暮らしたサバ（猫） 亡き後の大島さんの前に現れたグーグーは「んるる」と鳴く子猫。グーグーとの一日一日が少しずつ大島さんを癒していく様子にしみじみとしたものを感じました。別れと出会いの不思議な巡りあわせのようなもの・・縁あって出会うものを大切にしようと思わせてくれます。
