本作が、私が初めて読んだ皇先生の作品でした。私は内容をよく知らず、表紙だけで購入するかどうかを決めてしまうことが多々ありますが、この「花情曲(はなのこえ)」もその一つです。

読後は読んだ感想云々、というよりも、なんてきれいな絵を描く方だろう、と思いました。
後半は絵が変わってしまいますが、私は前半の絵の方が好きです。描く過程を想像すると気が遠くなるほど、一線一線が丁寧で緻密。そして、そんな細かい線で描かれた女性は本当に、息をのむほど美しい。

「梁山伯と祝英台」という、皇先生が書かれている別の単行本で、先生は、「私が漫画で描きたいものはストーリーよりも絵だ」とおっしゃられていますが、なるほどな、と思いました。
言うだけあります。先生の漫画は、どちらかというとストーリーそのものを楽しむというより、そこに描かれている絵を楽しむものだと思います。また、衣装も非常にこっており、それだけでも見がいがあるかと。

先生の絵を見て、少なからず興味を持った方にはぜひ手にとってほしい作品です。ため息がこぼれてしまうこと、間違いなし。

科挙に受かって探花使を命じられた宋貴祥が出会った不思議な牡丹の花番をする少年は実は…「花情曲」、如春が昼寝からめざめたら天女の領布が残されていた？「胡蝶至春園」天涯孤独の筈の保科家の総領息子が肉親に逢いたさに還俗して家に戻って見たものは…「蛇姫御殿」。話の題材は中国や日本の古い時代です。皇なつきを読んでいて馴染みのナイ中国の話などについグイグイ引き込まれてしまうのは、多分ひとえに、彼女が膨大な量の資料にあたって服装や調度に時代考証が行き届いているせいではないかと思います。この独特の絵柄も素晴らしくて、ハマルと抜けられません。ところで、なんでか知らないけど「花情曲」の中では才のある美人や佳人が情けない男にひっかかってばかり。。。なんでだろう。。。
