「次に暴くのはホワイトハウス」とコピーにあり、ダン・ブラウンの最新作かと思われがちですが、ちなみに本書は「天使と悪魔」の後に書かれた氏の第3作目(2001年米国出版)に当る長編であり、かの「ダ・ヴィンチ・コード」はこのあとに出版されています。
　これを読めば氏のプロット構成スタイルがすでに確立されている事を再認識できる小説となっており、基本的に大きな謎を解くために次々と薀蓄を披露して、小さな謎を解くことによって、ジグソーパズルのピースを組み合わせてラストを迎えるというスタイル。そう「ダ・ヴィンチコード」とほぼ同じ作りなんですね。
　今回は宗教色は一切無く、代わりに宇宙科学を謎のテーマにし、それを大統領選挙と絡めあわせ、次から次へと連鎖するように起こる出来事にページを読むスピードは落ちることなく進むでしょう。
　その点は見事。いつもながらの、大味な表現や、どんでん返しを狙いすぎの意外な犯人など、多少の欠点はありますが、それでも面白く読める娯楽小説には違いありません。それなりの知識もつきますしね。
　まさにこれは読む映画というような本でしょう。

天使と悪魔、ダ・ヴィンチ・コードの間に書かれたノンシリーズ物。宗教、美術、とは今回あまり関係はないが、政治の世界、駆け引き、ＮＡＳＡ、隕石、地学、軍事面では相変わらず薀蓄が満載。特に軍事面でのテクノロジーが作者の言う通りで現実に存在しているものだとすると背筋がヒンヤリとする。
スト-リー構成は、映画を意識したような作りでどんどん引き込まれる構成は流石。それゆえに、ダ・ヴィンチ・コードを読んだ人には黒幕が誰か、落ちがどうなるかが容易に想像ができる。できれば裏切られてみたかったが、良くも悪くも非常に安定している。ただ、脇役をはじめ人物描写は浅く感情移入が難しいのが気になるが、毎度のことなのでよしとしましょう。買って損はないが、過度な期待はしない方がいいかも。

「ダビンチコード」で知られる『ダンブラウン』の著書「デセプションポイント」を読んでみた。
この作品も読む者を引きずり込むエネルギーがある。
映像化すると『24 twenty-four』ちっく?!になる、と言えばイメージは伝わりやすいかもしれない。
「２４」は、各々の登場人物が窮地に陥っている様子を4分割の画面で映像化するが、
「デセプション・ポイント」は、章を短く細切れにし同時進行している。

アメリカ大統領を取り巻く政界に、NASA、国家偵察局（NRO）、宇宙フロンティア財団（SFF）を絡めた内容で、駆け引きを含めた人間模様が面白い。
各々の登場人物が別の場所で繰り広げる「スリルと緊張感とリズミカルな展開」に目が話せない。
地球外生物がいる!!という設定もなかなか。

知的好奇心をくすぐる、と解説に書かれていたが正にその通りだと思う。

これだけ読みやすく端的に日本語にした訳者の才能もすごい!!と思わないではいられない。
ダビンチコードも面白かったけど、私は「デセプションポイント」の方が面白かった。
映画化しないのかな??それとも『２４』がすでに編集した映像化なのかも。
