　次に暴くのはホワイトハウスとコピーにあり、ダン・ブラウンの最新作かと思われがちですが、ちなみに本書は「天使と悪魔」の後に書かれた氏の第3作目に当る長編であり、かの「ダ・ヴィンチ・コード」はこのあとに出版されています。これを読めば氏のスタイルがすでに確立されている事を再認識できる小説となっており、基本的に大きな謎を解くために次々と薀蓄を披露して、ジグソーパズルをくむかのように埋めていく構成。
　今回は宗教色は一切無く、代わりに宇宙科学を謎のテーマにし、それを大統領選挙と絡めあわせ、次から次へと連鎖するように起こる出来事にページを読むスピードは落ちることなく進むでしょう。
　その点は見事。いつもながらの、大味な表現や、どんでん返しを狙いすぎの意外な犯人など、多少の欠点はありますが、それでも面白く読める娯楽小説には違いありません。それなりの知識もつきますしね。
　まさにこれは読む映画というような本でしょう。

天使と悪魔、ダヴィンチコードの間にかかれた作品。ジェットコースタータイプの政治科学サスペンス恋愛小説といった感じで、一気に読んだ。アメリカ大統領選挙戦をベースに、NASAを得票材料としてくりひろげられる科学的陰謀。それに翻弄されながらも自己判断で切り抜ける二人の才媛女性、レイチェルとガブリエルはこのストーリーの主役といえる。隕石に宇宙生物の化石？暗殺部隊の指揮官はだれ？大統領に選ばれるのはどっち？最後まで息をつかせぬテンポで爽快な気分にさせてくれる、本書は知的好奇心が強い人に超オススメである。

たしかに「ダヴィンチコード」を読んだ後に読むとちょっと劣るなという気がしますが、スピードがあってストーリー展開やどんでん返しの結末も非常に面白かった（ただ、ダンブラウンの著書を続けて読んでいると、最後の以外な犯人が途中からなんとなくわかってしまったのは私だけでしょうか？）。もうひとつ、「ダヴィンチコード」や「天使と悪魔」と違って宗教色は全く無く、「歴史ミステリー」に興味がある人には期待はずれである可能性があります。ただ、やはりストーリー自体は非常に面白く、さすがという感じでした。
