　激動する中国社会、襲い来る自然災害、相次ぐ家族の死。その中で主人公は、決して人生から逃げず、ただ活きようとします。その強さに魅かれる作品です。

　余華の作品には、多くの死が描かれています。ホラー的な作品もありますが、『活きる』においては、「生」をより強く感じさせるためのエッセンスになっていると感じました。決して悲観的なものではありません。

　可能な方は、原文でも読んでみて下さい。邦訳版は、訳者の方の感性に頼って書かれている部分も多いからです。少し違った印象を受けると思います。

中国の文革などの激動の時代を経験し、それを活きぬいた主人公！！流れにそって静かな印象の作品でした。愛する家族との別れを受け入れていく気持ちは、やはり読み終わった後に寂しく思います。この後の主人公はどういう余生を送っていくのでしょうか。涙を流して悲しいのではなく、寂しいと感じてしまう1冊でした。

私の大好きな作品です。中国語の原本を読んでいたが、一度日本語訳も読みたいと思います。中国語のわかる方、ぜひぜひ中国語版を読んでください！言葉の裏にある翻訳できない部分、ほかの言語で伝えられないものこそ、この作品も精粋です。
