当時台湾でのみ発表されたMADARA。今回遂に日本での刊行となった。
内容はSFC版の２の「原作」のプロットの神代斑と妹背すばるの物語。
タイトルの四神とは赤青白黒４人のマダラの事。
ただ、ゲド＝ユダヤやギルガメシュを出して、４人集めて合体してクサナギを完全にして、ミロクを倒してとかを単行本１冊でやっちゃったのでかなり詰め込み過ぎ。

駆け足過ぎて思ってたより充実感が無かったのが心残り。

台湾のみで発売されていたという話は聞いていたので、買って読んでみたのだが・・・、なんともいえないないような内容になっている。マダラもユダヤもギルガメシュも出てくるし、ミロクもサクヤも出てくる。ついでに、マダラの一部として影王やバサラや神代斑も出てくる。全１巻だというのに、なんでもアリだ。
『四神篇』は、もともとスーファミソフトの原作である。私は昔、そのソフトを買ってプレイした事あるが、それも誉められた内容ではなかった。この作品にしても、ゲームソフトにしても、いろいろと問題が有ったらしい。そういった大人の事情について、大塚氏は『四神篇』のあとがきで感想（＋愚痴）を述べている。私は、作品の内容よりも、あとがきの方が面白かった。

MADARAシリーズ本編「転生編」とは別(パラレル世界)の「もう一つの」「転生編」です。

全1巻という事もあり、全人物描写も、展開も薄味・駆け足である事は否めませんが、
・パラレル世界を展開してくれた制作側の遊び心
・壱のマダラ登場
以上が魅力です。

田島絵ではありませんが、過酷な状況の中（あとがき参照）、
作画をお引き受けになった作者の方は偉いです。
お陰で楽しめました。
