　「THE ORIGIN」第二巻を読むと、この漫画版ファーストガンダムは、単にアニメを写しただけのものではないことが改めて良くわかる。アニメでは割愛された細部が、安彦氏の手によって新たに描き込まれているおかげだ。
　「ガンダム」の真の主人公とも言われるシャアの登場が話題の第二巻だが、実はこの巻で特に活写されているのはブライト・ノアだと思う。

　有象無象の民間人に囲まれた新米軍人ブライトの、にわか軍人アムロたちへの優越感と責任感、赤い彗星シャアへの劣等感、セイラへのほのかなスケベ心が、それぞれのコマからにじみ出てくるようだ。
　この先、他の登場人物のディテールがどう描かれていくのかが楽しみになる一冊だ。

ご存知、1979年~1980年迄放送されたアニメ、「機動戦士ガンダム」のキャラクターデザイン＆大半の作画をこなした安彦良和氏が独自の解釈で描くガンダムストーリーの第二巻。
　TV版の3~5話に相当すると思われるこの第二巻は、サイド７離脱直後のシャアとの戦いから大気圏突入迄を描いています。

　TVや劇場でガンダムを観ていた方、最近の新しいガンダムしか知らない方、はたまたガンダムそのものを見た事のない方。

まだまだ物語の序章とは言え、安彦氏の卓越した画力と映画のようなコマ割り、構図。そして、20年以上も人気をはくしているこの秀作を、ロボットアニメ＝子供番組と言う時代ならではの理不尽さを手直しされたこの新しい物語は、一見の価値ありです。

たいていの人はこの漫画を読む前にビデオやテレビで1stガンダムを知っているだろう、ゆえにストーリーがどう進むかはすでにご存知の上で読むことになるのだと思う。

しかしそういった人たちも十分に楽しめることができる、なぜならば、これは1stガンダムでありながら1stガンダムではない、知っているストーリーなのに知らないお話なのだ。ガンダムを新しく楽しむための漫画それが機動戦士ガンダム THE ORIGINであると私は思う。

ガンダムの歴史が長い分、読んでる各々が各場面や設定の一つ一つに思い入れがある事が多い。ゆえに「なんでここが違うんだ｣などと思う人も多いかもしれない、この第二巻にもそういった場面があるにはある。
しかしそれで怒ったり落胆してはいけない、これはあなたの知ってるガンダムであって、あなたの知らないガンダムでもあるのだ。
