漫画版の連載はTV放送に先立つこと半年前に始められている。第一巻はテレビ版の第一話、第二話に相当。
よくあるTVアニメの漫画化とは異なり作者の貞本氏自身がアニメ版にも参加していることも特長。ストーリーはTV版に沿っている。一方で心理描写等において独自の描きかたをしているのが興味深い。

特にシンジの性格描写が異なる。漫画版シンジがひたすら外界との接触を避けようとするあまり生きることにすら積極的になれない風に見えるのに対すると、漫画版シンジは世の中に対してひねている印象だ。少なくとも行動に前向きな部分もある。

第二巻の巻末に収録されているコミック版の作者自身のインタビュー記事では、テレビ版シンジとの性格の違いは、監督の庵野と貞本の性格の違いだと言っているとこ!ろも興味深く、漫画版の読みどころのひとつとなるだろう。

TV版第一話の見所ともいえる、「逃げちゃだめだ逃げちゃだめだ･･･」というシンジの独白は漫画版では省かれているが、作者が意図的に外したらしい。またシンジがエヴァに乗ると宣言した後のコマに描かれたゲンドウの笑みも、TV版と印象が異なる。こうしたTV版との見比べも楽しい。

エヴァファンはもちろん、少しでも興味があった人も一度は手に取るべきです。
アニメの良いとこもちゃんと残しつつ、アニメとは少し違った‘貞本エヴァ’が見れます。
なんか得した気分になれます。お勧めです！

通称「貞本エヴァ｣の漫画版。テレビ放映の1年ぐらい前から連載をされていたんですが、テレビ版の内容を補完しつつも、テレビ版とは枝葉を変えての内容になっています。テレビ版を見ていた人間もその結末をどうするのか、注目してしまうものになっています。もともとエヴァは主人公シンジの成長の物語として書かれているわけですが、この貞本エヴァはその成長の仕方が庵野エヴァとは一味違っていて興味深い。テレビ版との細かい違いも面白いけれども、やはりシンジの内面の成長をどう描くか、が最大の焦点ですね。これからエヴァを見る、というかたにはもっとオススメ。
