瀬川さんを初めて知ったのは、プロ試験に合格した時のテレビのニュースでした。「寡黙だが、意思の強い人」という印象を受けました。その時からとても気になる存在となり、この本もすぐに読みました。年齢制限によりプロになれなかったことで一度挫折を経験しますが、夢の実現を願い、口に出して語り、それが周囲の人を動かしてプロ試験が実現し、最終的に合格する過程の著者の気持ちが良く分かりました。一度社会人生活を経験されているだけあり、著者の訴えていることが将棋の世界だけでなく、私のようなサラリーマンにも思い描きやすい内容でした。思いつくままサラリーマンにあてはめると次のような感じです。

「後手」でも、腐らずにやり続ける。⇒昇進が遅くても目標に向かってたゆまず進むこと。努力は裏切らない。
（盤上での）信用⇒こいつなら大丈夫。こいつならしょうがない。と思われるような存在になる。
プロとアマ⇒サラリーマンでも好きで打ち込んでいればプロである。
プロとアマの差⇒紙一重だが大きな差。それは執念。！！

「後手」だと自認されている方に、ぜひ読んで頂きたいです。

この本を読んで、人生は待ちの姿勢からは何も生まれないことを強く感じた。
誠心誠意やっていれば自ずと道は開ける。それを実際、実践した瀬川さんは
立派である。しかし、漠然と頑張っていてもダメで明確な戦略が大切である。
また、トッププロと普通の並みのプロの差やプロとアマの違いなど興味深い
話も多かった。
トッププロの場合、「周りが認める空気」や独特なオーラがある。この域ま
で行かないと本物の勝者にはなれない。勝負が始まる前から決している場合
も少なくない。同時にプロ意識の必要性も感じました。
オススメの良書だと思います。

プロの将棋界では異例の３５歳という遅まきの年齢で棋士になった、あの瀬川晶司さんでないと書けない内容の本です。
プロ棋士の方々の本はこれまでにも色々読んできましたが、瀬川さんの本はどこかに我々一般人と共通の感覚や考え方を感じさせられるように思います。やはりそこには一度社会人経験をされたということで親しみが感じられます。

「後手という生き方」
確かに将棋の世界では「後手」という人生を歩まれているかもしれませんが、しかし後手だからといって悲観することはなく、むしろ他の棋士にない人間としての強さや生き方を、本書に書かれているとおり伝えていって欲しいですね。

本書にはプロとアマの違いや、トッププロとそうでない普通のプロとの違いなど興味を抱く内容も書かれてあります。また、これからの将棋界についての意見も述べられています。
最後には「先手」を歩まれている渡辺竜王との対談も興味深いです。

今までとは違う角度から将棋界を見詰めた書として面白いと思います。
