なかなか参考になるドイツ鉄道ガイドです。実際に利用する際に役に立つ知識が満載です。たとえば、駅に行っても日本の感覚で、すぐ乗車券は買えない。20−30分はみておいたほうがいいなどのアドヴァイスは当たり前ながら、大事なポイントです。またＤＢの食堂車の特色や使い方にも参考になる情報がいっぱいです。今回の注目点はもっぱら旧東独が中心として扱われている点です。日本では、ドイツというともっぱらライン川沿いのロマンチック街道の旧西独がどうしても注目されますが、旧東独地域も長い歴史に恵まれた場所です。今回はバルト海のリューベックに始まり、ベルリン、ドレスデンなどの隠れたドイツの魅力の地域が、詳しく鉄道旅行の観点から取り上げられており役に立ちます。この本の中の写真から判断する限り、著者の野田さんの旅行はほとんどが夏の時期に集中しているようで、本当にうらやましい限りです。

最初のアルプス越え路線であり、ウィーンと世界遺産に登録された古都グラーツなどを結ぶ、オーストリアのセメリンク線は世界遺産に登録されているが、ドイツの鉄道関連で世界遺産に登録されたものは今のところない。しかし、ドイツに30ほどある世界遺産のいくつかを列車で巡りながら、ドイツを鉄道で旅する楽しみを、文学、音楽、美術から食文化の話題まで交えて暖かい視点でさりげなく紹介しながらコンパクトにまとめられて、著者と一緒に旅しているような気分にさせてくれる。
もちろん、実際に旅する時には最新の情報によるアップデートは必要だが、「旅への誘い」として美しい写真共々楽しませてくれる。

便利で快適なドイツ鉄道(DB）を乗り継いでドイツをぐるりを一周。
鉄道マニアの著者らしい描写も多いが、音楽や文化・歴史についても程よく語ってくれる。
旅慣れた著者が出会う人々や建物、土地ゆかりの歴史等、ちょうど良いミックス具合。写真も美しい。
