著者の大野景範は、故川内康範の唯一の弟子として行動を共にする。そして、「月光仮面」や様々な昭和歌謡作品、映画などを次々と生み出していく。
昭和２０年代から３０年代の情景と芸能界という華々しい世界の裏で、自分たちだけではなく、日本中の人々の戦争の傷をいやすがごとく創作活動を続けていく２人の青年たち。
その清々しさは、平成の今にはたして存在するのだろうか？
世界大戦と敗戦という今では想像もできな強烈な体験を潜り抜けた戦後の昭和は、すべてが傷つきながらも、こんなにもエネルギッシュで温かかったのか。高度成長以降の閉塞感が充満していた昭和しかしらない僕にとって、それは楽しい発見だった。

本書には例の森進一と川内康範の「おふくろさん騒動」の顛末を想像させる表題がついているが、実際に読んでみると、騒動の表層的な出来事にではなく、川内康範と著者が、「おふくろさん」に注いだ心情の核心が綴られている。そして、それは、結して露骨ではなく、むしろ昭和当時のすべての日本人が持っていた厳しくて温かい、生きるためのメッセージだった。

実は、少々のゴシップを期待していたのだが、実際には骨太な青春記だった本書を読み終わり僕は、すっきりと満足してしまった。

5.0 out of 5 stars あの憎らしい爺さんが、こんな事考えていたなんて本当だったら凄い！, 2008/12/22
本当にこの通りなら、森進一は“今の筋書きで”おふくろさんを歌って良いのかって感じ。この本の通りなら、間違いなく森進一も、おふくろさんも、川内康範も、不動のものに成るんじゃないかと思った。本文中に、「さんざん悪態をついた友人が、憎しみにも近い感情を残したまま他界したとする。しかしその後、まさかと思うタイミングで、心のこもった遺言と財産と言ってもいいような未発表の詩が残されていたのなら・・・。」とあったが、それをあの態度で演出でしていたのなら、本当に昭和の傑物だ。本当かなという思いもあるが、著者の特攻隊時代のことから出会いまで、またその後の二人の関係も、時代やその情景も頭に浮かび、一気に読め楽しめるのも確かだ。素直に読めば素直に感動できるが、本当にこんな演出を考えていたのかなという部分もある・・・。
