薄暗い水族館の中、水槽の青い光を受けて物憂げに佇む少年。
そんな表紙を気に入ってジャケ買いしてしまいましたが、大変面白かったです。
少年少女たちの穏やかな青春、その日々に暗い影を落とし始めるこっくりさん、ラジオのノイズから聞こえる呼び声、水族館の地下への階段。

ありふれたモチーフのようにも思えるけど、物語全体に漂うノスタルジックな雰囲気によって、むしろ在りし日の良質な青春ホラーを思い起こさせてくれる魅力があります（この小説自体、結構前に書かれた物らしいですが）。そして、断片的に真相が見え隠れするものの解かれないまま姿を消す謎と、取り残される主人公の少年。謎が解かれずに終わるといっても不満を残すような終わり方ではなく、やるせない喪失感が後を引いてとても印象に残る結末です。

　中高生向けの小説なんて書いたことも書く気も無かった人に、
無理矢理ジュブナイルっぽい一人称で書かせたような文体で読みづらい。
台詞の口調も変。おじいちゃんが漠然と抱いてる若者の印象で書いているような感じ。

　別にバッドエンドも嫌いじゃないけど、散々引っ張っておいて
どの謎にも何の解答もヒントも出さないまま投げっぱなしで終わるというのも酷い。
この後味の気持ち悪さは黒沢清の映画にちょっと似てる。

この本の表紙に惹かれた人は、
物語の雰囲気もすごく似ていてノスタルジックで謎めいた感じなので
とても入りこめると想いますよ、僕はそうでした。
清水マリコみたいな、「ああ、なんか感じるな」って想える小説です。
この人にしか絶対にかけない、っていうタイプの。
ミステリーやホラー、そして青春小説が好きな人にイチオシです。
