アニメとはまたちょっと違ったガンダムワールドです。　アニメでは見栄えのするロボットが主役でしたが、小説ではニュータイプの精神面が活字として前面に出てきています。　ニュータイプを語るには映像よりも文章の方がしっくりきているように思いましたので、アニメで納得できなかった人はこちらを読んでみてもいいかもしれません。　個人的にはセイラの出番も多い点でもお勧めです。

神話的な広がりをみせる「機動戦士ガンダム」の原点である小説版、たとえ「ガンダム」というネームバリューが無かったとしても第一級のSＦ小説です。

内容については、今さらどうこう述べる必要もないでしょう。ただ、アニメしか知らないという人には、少し戸惑いがあるかも。その戸惑いがラストでは衝撃に変わって・・・。読む楽しみが減るといけませんので、あんまり詳しくは書かないでこのヘンでやめておきますが、アニメでは表現できなかった・表現しづらかった心像、心理が書き込まれていて、人と人のわかりあうことの難しさ、理解することの困難さに胸をつかれます。
これを読まずしてガンダムを語るなかれ！と言ってもよいほどの、ファンなら必読の作品です。

3冊、かなり、面白く、一挙に読める。


ただ、それは映像版ガンダムの知識があればこそ。この小説のみ読んだ人がいるのであれば、よく分からないし、正直あまり面白くないのでは、と思える。まあ、この小説を読む人は映像から入った人だからそんなことは関係ない、と言い切ることも出来るが。

映像版に出てこなかったが小説版のみ登場するキャラクターの印象は非常に薄い。読んでいて、ああアムロ、シャア等々はこう考えるんだ、とさらっと読めるし理解も出来るが、小説のみのキャラクターをその調子で読むとなんにも記憶に残らない。

アナザーストーリーとして楽しむのが良いと思うし、それで十分楽しいとは思うが、残念だけれど映像版ガンダムの出来（特に劇場版）には遠く及ばない。

こちらを読むのであれば、「密会」の方が面白いと思う。何で密会であったのか、納得させられる。
