時代は幕末、舞台はお江戸。
貧乏神社の神主業を務める二人の兄弟。

兄の弓月には未来や過去をのぞき見る能力、夢告(ゆめつげ)があった。
ところが、弓月の超能力は当たるときもあれば外れるときもある、いやほとんど外れてしまうものだから、周囲はほとんど信用していない。

ところがある日のこと、社格の高い神社から夢告の依頼があったのだ。
１０年前に行方不明になった大店の一人息子の捜索をしたところ、三人が名乗り出てきたので、誰がほんとうの子供なのかを夢告で見て欲しい。

自分の腕は不確かだからとしぶる弓月だったが、貧乏神社の経営は苦しい。　お礼のお金で雨漏りがする屋根を直したい、屋根だけではなく他にも修理したいところはたくさんある。
金に目がくらんだ弓月は、弟の信行と一緒に格上の神社に向かった。

そして、わけのわからない事件に巻き込まれてしまいます。
そうそう、事件に巻き込まれているうちに、弓月の夢告能力がどんどん上がって、見えないはずのものが見えてきて、いっそう怖さが身に沁みる趣向。

当時の常識である神仏酒豪、、ではなくて神仏習合と、先が見えない幕末の不安な政情が背景にあるせいで、しゃばけシリーズのようにのんびりはしていません。
でも弓月は(しゃばけの)若旦那と似たキャラクターです。　頼りないけれど、でもしっかりしているところも多少はあって。

幕末の政情が組み込んであるところがミソですね。
これから寺や神社はどうなっていくだろうか、お寺も神社も不安に思っている。
将来について不安に思っているのは武士も庶民も同じ。

畠中恵を待ち焦がれている、あなたにお勧め。

幕末、動乱の江戸。
小さな神社で禰宜を務める弓月は、
頼りない力ではあるが夢占いができた。
ある日由緒ある神社の権宮司・彰彦がやってきて、
大店の一人息子の行方を占ってほしいと
大金をつんで願い出て。。。

のんびり屋の兄としっかりものの弟の
軽妙なテンポの会話に乗せられて、
ほのぼのと読み進んでいくと、
辻斬りや事件がばたばたと起こります。
黒船の来航で揺れ動く日本を感じ、動く人々と
日常の、けれど重大事をかかえた人の思惑が交錯し
すこし骨太の時代小説に仕上がっています。

とはいえ、著者の持ち味である温かみのある人物描写や
ミステリのおもしろさも、お話の大切な柱となっています。

小さな神社の神官兄弟、弓月と信行。しっかり者の弟に叱られてばかりの弓月には「夢告」の能力があった。が、それは全く役に立たないしろもの。ある日、迷子捜しの依頼を礼金ほしさについ引き受けてしまうのだが……。★これ良く出来ているなあと思います。個人的には、好きなジャンルかも♪★ミステリなんだけれどもその中でほろ苦い夫婦の機微があったり…。江戸時代から明治に変わろうとする幕末の動乱が組み込まれていたりとファンタジーなんですが、なかなか内容的には濃いのではないでしょうか！？
