単行本として全4巻で発売された小説の文庫版。こちらはその1,2巻をまとめた上巻になる。主要な主人公は3名いるが上巻では、まだ力はないが素晴らしい才能を秘めている知季、豪快なDIVEを持ち味とするものの飛び込み競技を心から愛せない飛沫の2名の物語が中心となっている。

飛び込み競技をメインテーマとして扱っているものの決してスポ根モノという感じはしない。それは作者がホントに書きたかったものは飛込競技の面白さではなく、飛び込み競技を通じて悩み・成長する少年たちを描こうとしてからだと思う。
読み進めば進むほど主人公たちの成長を実感できる作品。

巧いなぁ、楽しいなぁ、それが本書を第一部まで読んだときの感想です。
緻密な創り込みが分かるのですが、そのストーリーにがんがん引き寄せられてしまう。
思春期の少年の心理描写もすばらしい。
でも、そんなことどうでもいい。読んでみてください。

最近子供が産まれた新米パパ。夫婦共働きの私にはほとんど自分の時間が（余裕が）ありません。
たまたまヨメさんが子供を連れてジジババのところへ遊びに。
ぽっかり空いた１日。
いろいろやりたいことがあったのですが、買い貯めた中からこの本を手に取ったばかりに何もできなくなりました（笑
久しぶりにラストが近づくのが惜しくなる作品。
最後の一行を読み終え、清々しい優しい気持ちになると共に、あ〜あ、終わっちゃったという切ない気持ちに。
私に取ってはそんな素敵な本でした。

文句なしに面白い。

３人の個性的な少年たちをそれぞれ主人公に物語は展開していく。
彼らがそれぞれ凄くいい。

ひとつのものに自分のすべてをかけること。
それをするためには捨てなければならないもの・あきらめなくてはならないことが多すぎる。
その苦しみが一人ひとりの視点でかかれており、けれどそれを乗り越えていくからこそ、その姿が眩しすぎ、彼らの演技に涙が出るほどの感動を覚える。

現在開幕中のオリンピック。
いままで、まったく興味もなかった飛び込みが見たくてたまらなくなった。
