母の手が肩を抱く。体温が伝わる。母の背後をすり抜け、兄が開け放したままのドアから出て行く。母は声を掛けなかった。振り向くことさえしなかった。
この子を一人にしたくないの。上の子はいいの。もう大きいし、一人で何でもやっちゃう子なのよ。ものすごく、しっかりしてる。嫌になるぐらいよ―――

―――寂しくない？

一人で、独りで、たった独りでマウンドという場所に立つことは、寂しいことではないのだろうか。

一人でいるということと、独りであるということは、まるで違う。
一人が二つ集まれば二人だが、独りは誰といてもどこにあっても、『ふたり』になることはできない。
それは絶対的な孤独でしかない。
独りマウンドに立ち続ける巧の存在に、声に出せない寂寞を感じとる青波。
他者を寄せつけない巧の精神の原点と、青波との兄弟のかたちを垣間見たような気がしました。

この作品は本当に話が進むに連れ、甘さがどんどん排除され、まるでナイフのようになる。
ここまで来ると、もはや小説とは呼べず、まるで哲学書のようである。
今後の展開から目が話せない。
