声高に叫ぶでもない、深刻ぶってみるでもない。
憂国とか、悲憤慷慨とか、そういうものとは程遠い。
それでも、ここに書かれているのは間違いなく、憂国の言葉たちだ。

当たり前のことを当たり前にさらっと言っているだけの（それが難しいのだけど）、この本に☆５つの評価をしたくなるってことは、裏を返せばそれだけ、時代がやばい方向に進んでいるってことなんだろうな。

私の息子は大学受験の面接で大学へは入れたら何をしたいと聞かれて事実を客観的に見られるようになりたいと答えた。面接者はどうしたらそれができるかと聞いたのでそれを大学で学びたいと答えた。今四回生の彼が最近私に親父はこの本を読むと良いよとこの本を貸してくれた。
私はこの著者のことは全く知らなかった。しかし読んでゆくうちにこれを息子に知ってもらいたかったのだと知った。それぞれのエピそソードについての著者の考えはやわらかいタッチだがその意味するところは深い。テレビ、新聞に代表される日本のジャーナリズムは、所詮われわれ日本人の平均的な感性を映した鏡でしかないが、その生態のおかしさ、不条理を喝破している。息子は自分で私が知って欲しかったことを知ったようだ。

森達也『世界が完全に思考停止する前に』角川文庫

文庫版になってる。2003、04年に森さんが発表した時評論を集めた本で、単行本は2004年10月の出版。だいたい2.3年前の話題ばかり。イラク戦争、北朝鮮の拉致事件、タマちゃん、パナウェーブ。それから今も変わらぬメディアのあれこれ。

思考を止めると身軽になる。
動き出した怪物は止まらない。
あとはスピードを増すだけだ。
早いな早いなこの乗り物。

2年前に起こった事件たちが、もうだいぶん昔の出来事のように思える。そして忘れてた事件ばっか。たった2･3年前のことなのに。

森さんのスタンスは相変わらずで、よかった。どんどん風通しの悪くなる世の中で、森さんみたいな大人がいると、やはり安心する。人が集まる場は、それがどんな場であれ、風通しが良いか悪いかでまったく違う。それさえクリアすれば、取り返しのつかない事態には至らないはず、と僕は信じてる。

もうすぐ今年の夏も終る。
周回遅れのトップランナーは、今はどこを走ってるのか。
