『祇園精舎の鐘の声~』は、誰でも知っている。でも、その先は・・・
という人にお勧め。難しい表現ではなく、分かりやすい文章なので、
後学の為に内容を知っておきたいという方にも。古文と日本史の授業
で、ことごとく居眠っていた私でも理解できました。血なまぐさい戦
の話ばかりではなく、歴史上の人物の人間らしい姿が描かれているの
で、面白いと思いましたよ。

能には、平家物語をお題にしたものが40編あまりあるそうです。
その勉強として本書は最適でした。
日本史が苦手だとしても、物語は面白く一気に読めてしまうものです。
そうでなければ、現代まで伝わるものではなかったでしょう。

平家物語の概要がひととおり分かるが、ボリュームのある
物語を一冊の本にまとめている為、無味乾燥になってしまっている。
この本で平家物語に興味を持ったならばまた別の、もっと
ボリュームのある本を読まなければならなくなるだろう。
しかし、まあ入門としてはいい本かも知れない。
