ビデオ版で明かされなかった呪いの元凶が明らかになる為だけに購入しても良いかと思います。只、嫌悪感を伴う描写もある為、気の弱い方は夜はお勧めできません。かなりブルーになります。ビデオ、映画を見る前に読んだらすっきりすると思います。

私は映画を観てから小説を読みました。
映画では意味が分からないままだったことが、小説ではよくわかりました。
特に、かやこについて。
映画では彼女がどのような人だったのかはよくわかりませんでしたが、小説では生前の彼女のことを知ることができます。
もとからかなり異常な人のようです。
彼女の異常さと残酷さに嫌気がさす人もいるかもしれませんが、私は彼女がかわいそうだと思いました。

小説だけ読んでもあまり怖くはないかもしれません。
映画を観てから読むことをおすすめします。
映画の映像を思い出しながら読むと、けっこう怖いです。

小説を読むだけでは物語の恐さは伝わりにくいが、それの映像化を想像（実際見ていないが）した瞬間にぞっとした感覚が現れました。平気で全作軽々と見れたリングシリーズとは違うようです。「呪いが伝染する」というのは同じなのに全く明るい気分で読めない作品でした。（明るい気分でホラーを読もうとすること自体おかしいが・・・）リングに物語の深さを感じたけれど、こちらは全く感じず。浅く薄っぺらいのに後味の悪い終わり方というのは頂けない。
