　2001年に『ベルゼブブ』というタイトルで、徳間ノベルスとして出たものの改題・文庫化。
　かなり加筆修正されているとか。
　虫を媒体として、神と悪魔の戦いを描いた一冊。子どもの持つ残虐性とかもクローズアップされ、ゾッとするような話に仕上がっている。
　田中氏の作品としてはグロテスク色が濃厚な一冊。ほかの作品だと、残虐な描写が続いても、生理的な嫌悪感を引き起こすところまではいかないのだが、本書ではやられた。やはり、テーマとなっている「虫」の持つ気持ち悪さが原因だろう。そういう、ウジャウジャ、モゾモゾのホラーを読みたい人におすすめ。

嫌な香りが文章間から漂い、読んでて具合が悪くなった作品は初めて。
正統派エクソシスト系骨太ホラーで、お勧めです。

最初から最後まで虫だらけのお話です。タイトルからして蝿がいっぱいかと思いきや、いろんな種類の虫でうめつくされています。ホラーとしては秀逸です。おぞましくて不気味で、後味の悪さもイイ感じです。
