映画を先に観た。
いかにあの映画が原作に忠実に作られたかが分かった。

自分探しの物語は世に溢れているが、
この本の話は、本当のロックを探し、
ロックであるべき自分を実現しようとする物語。
自ら敬愛するボブ・ディランやジョン・レノンとその妻が登場し、
自分を見つめる。
つまり
自分が「こうありたい」と望む人に、
自分を監視してもらう。
その人に対して恥ずかしくないように生きようとする。
それが自分を探す方法なのかもしれない。

著書の絵には賛否両論あろうが、
私はこのミョーな味が好きだ。
絵に「シリアスさ」は皆無なのに、
明らかに主人公はどこまでもシリアス。
何か、偶像めいた雰囲気さえ感じさせる。

アイデンティティを持ってるやつなんかいない。期待もしてない。自分が持ってるのかもわからない。問題はそれだけだ。自分のティティを探すため日々戦い続ける中島、たまに寄り道もするけど、終わらないたびを続ける。果たしてティティを手に入れることはできるのか。

バンドブーム盛衰の悲喜を体験するバンド、ＳＰＥＥＤ　ＷＡＹの中島の日常。彼が「ロック」から外れそうになるとあらわれ、語るボブディラン。そして彼を支える彼女の存在。ある人間のポリシーとそのとおりにはいかない毎日、そしてそれを支える存在というテーマが「ロック」を切り口に語られます（ディラン＝神、彼女＝菩薩というイメージでしょうか）。みうらじゅん氏のとぼけた画風がシリアスなテーマと混じりあうと、重いだけのトーンにならなくなって不思議です。へヴィィなもののと、バカバカしいものがミックスして成立する人生、それは普遍的な原則かもしれないですね。趣きある作品でした。
