4.0 out of 5 stars 映画のシナリオに沿った本書は、史実を背景とした「歴史ドラマ」だ, 2001/2/11
映画「13デイズ」とそれを活字化した本書は、キューバ危機の本質的な枠組みをしっかり提示する一方、細部ではいろいろ演出をほどこしているようだ。たとえば、「あなたはひどい苦境に追い込まれているんです」と言うルメイ空軍司令官に対して、大統領が、「きみは気づいていないかもしれないが、きみ自身もわたしと一緒にそのなかにいるんだぞ」と切り返す場面がある(p.80)が、当時司法長官だったロバート・ケネディの回想録 Thirteen Days では、General David M. Shoup, Commandant of the Marine Corps, summed up everyone's feelings. "You are in a pretty bad fix, Mr. President." The President answered quickly, "You are in it with me." Everyone laughed, and, with no final decision, the meeting adjorned." (ノートン版 p.29)と描かれている。映画では、発言者の数を整理し、物語の流れにメリハリを持たせようとしたのかもしれないが、ルメイ将軍が空爆強行派でこの場にいたことが事実であっても、映画や本書でのこの描写はやはりフィクションと言わざるをえないのではないだろうか。史実自体が劇的なだけに、逆に本書のすべてが事実と鵜呑みにはできないことも心しておきたい。阿南東也氏のすぐれた解説は、近年明らかにされたさまざまな資料をもとに、映画と事実との間の橋渡しをしてくれている。なお阿南氏は、ロバート・ケネディの回想録が、ソレンセン(大統領のスピーチライターも務めた補佐官)によって手が加えられていたことに言及しているが、それによって彼の回想録の価値がすべて失われてしまうわけではない。映画や本書でキューバ危機に興味を持たれた方には一読をおすすめしたい。ケネディ大統領自身が秘密裏に録音していた一連の会議の内容を活字に起こした The Kennedy Tapes (Harvard University Press)を読む前の肩ならしとしても最適だ。

映画のノベライズ本と言うと、どこか上滑りの感がいなめないが、この本（映画）は題材そのものがドラマであり歴史的事実であったがゆえに一気呵成に読ませてしまう迫力がある。人類が経験した核戦争の淵を歩く若き指導者達の苦悩と共に、この事実を風化させない為にも是非若い方々にも読んでもらいたい。最後の阿南氏の解説文も秀逸・・・

　非常に緊迫した「大事件」だったのですね。 　この時代に生まれていない自分は実際その時代で直面すると・・・・・・考えるとぞっとします。 本を読んで映画を見に行きたくなりました。
