父を亡くして孤児になった少女が、生徒だった学園で働きながら暮らしていく様を表現。
手のひらを返すという用語が、ぴったりの学園の対応。
逆境にもめげない主人公。
最後は、父の知人からの遺産の授与で幸せになる物語。

川端靖成が翻訳にかかわっていることを、本書で知りました。

「小公子」「秘密の花園」でも知られる
フランシス・ホジソン・バーネットの作品。
日本では「小公女セーラ」として、アニメ放映もされた有名作品です。

簡単に言えばシンデレラストーリーの王道ですが、
主人公が幼い少女である点と、シンデレラのように流されるのではなく
強い意志で運命を切り開こうとするその姿勢が奥行きを与えています。

たった７つの主人公が、度重なる困難の前にしても、その気品を失わず
自らの意思を貫き通すその姿勢が、感動を誘います。

日本語訳には川端康成も名を連ねており、
名作にお墨付きを与えています。

老若男女問わず、
全ての人が楽しめる物語だと思います。

教育にも良さそうです。

アニメ版は観たことがあっても、
本を読んだことのない人は意外と多いのではないでしょうか。

ぜひ読んでください。

繰り返し読める、
名作中の名作だと思います。

特に最後は素晴らしく、
とても感動しました。

文句なしの星５つです。
