本書は三洋社版「鬼太郎夜話」全４集のうち、第三集「水神様が町へやってきた」と第四
集「顔の中の敵」を収録しています。本シリーズの特色は、原本のカラー頁を再現してい
ることです。

【水神様が町へやってきた】
　本作は、鬼太郎が生活のために請け負いで妖怪から借金をとりたてる話です。森協とい
う金貸しが三十年前、「物の怪」と「水神様」に千円を貸しました。それが利子をあわせ
て一千万円にまで膨らんでいる。そこで彼らを捜し出して、借金を取り立てたい。鬼太郎
は、取立分の一割が報酬という約束で、それを請け負います。
　鬼太郎は「物の怪」を捜し出すと、水神様のもとにむかいます。しかし水神様の逆鱗に
ふれてしまい、水神様（肉食）は奔流となって町になだれ込みます。
　なお第一、二集で活躍した、ニセ鬼太郎、吸血木の話は背後にしりぞいています。

【顔の中の敵】
「顔の中の敵」になると今度は、一人の女性をめぐる、ねずみ男と人狼とのライバル関係
に話が移ります。ねずみ男は絶体絶命の状況で、鬼太郎親子の命を救います。そして鬼太
郎は命の恩人の彼のもとで、住み込みの召使いとして働きはじめます。ねずみ男は隣人の
ガマ令嬢に恋をし、鬼太郎に橋渡しを依頼します。ところが同じ女性に、今度はロンドン
からやってきた人狼が恋をします。人狼は水神様をやっつける代わりに、ガマ令嬢への恋
の橋渡し役を鬼太郎に依頼します。互いのライバルに内通していることを知った、ねずみ
男と人狼は結託して、鬼太郎を亡き者にしようと試みるのですが･･････。

荒俣による解説の「癖」とは実在の人物を登場させること、そして「混浴」とは水木先生
が本作で人間と妖怪との垣根をなくしていることの例えです。

子供たちには薦められないが、
大人が読むマンガとしてはたいへんお薦めである。
トランク永井・大空ひばりなど、
当時の世相がわかるのも魅力のひとつ。

関西では、先週から墓場鬼太郎のアニメが深夜に放送されているが、
それも楽しみである。

何でもかんでも復刻版の時代。「どうでもいい」と思う様な復刻版も数知れず！しかし、この復刻版は非常に有難い物だ。そこら辺の古本屋ではなかなかお目にかかれない貴重な漫画が復刻版となって帰ってきた！この時代の漫画はマニアのコレクターレベルで純粋に漫画そのものが読みたくても入手困難でたとえ有っても高額で買えない。先に1巻を購入し読んで非常に面白かったので今回は２〜３巻を注文した。鬼太郎の初期の頃は現在の物とはかなり違い怖い。
