この2004年、酒に酔い、それが遠因となり中島らもは死んだ。酒で死ぬ。確かに彼らしい死に方ではあるが、やはり残念である。かつて中島氏は、多くの資料を参照しつつ自らのアルコール中毒体験を小説化し、人間の苦悩をユーモアたっぷりに描いて見せた（『今夜すべてのバーで』）。面白くも、どこか悲しい風合の作品であった。

本書は、いしいしんじとの対談である。いしい氏は、常識に囚われることのない、広い視野を持った人物であり、それでいて学識もある。中島氏の対談相手としていしい氏は、中島氏の魅力を十分に引き出していたと思う。中島氏の教養の深さ、その破天荒な生き様、そしてそこにひそむ屈折した部分が、この対談の中からうかがえる。

基本的に楽しい読み物なのだが、どこか人間の悲哀をも感じさせるものであった。

中島氏は、「泣かせる」ものを書く作家ではなかった。むしろ「笑わせる」作家であった。一応そのように認知されている。しかし、もっと厳密に言えば、泣き笑いが表裏一体であることに、もっとも意識的な作家だったのではないだろうか。この対談を読みそのように思った。

やっぱ、らもさんはおもろいです。いしいしんじさんはこの本で初めて知ったのですが（いしいさん、すいません）、この方もかなりおもろい人ですね。
頭が疲れた時や、とにかく何にも考えたくない時に読むとかなりほぐされます。夜中に読むと笑い声を出してしまうので、気をつけましょう。

~トークショーを、本でやってます。

と、ここまで、書いてみて、本の中身をすっかり忘れていました。
手元にあったので、読み返してみたら、１ヶ月ほど前に読んだはずなのに、
すっかり忘れている。
ただ、面白かったことだけを覚えている。

何も残らないのだけど、おもしろかった。
１ヶ月前に読んだはずなのに、すっかり消えていた。
というそん~~な本です。~
