「ファッサード」という酒場に集う仲間たちの物語。いろんな男、いろんな女がいて、それぞれの物語がさらりとした湿度で描かれている。皆に共通しているのが「やさしさ」。喪失感を抱えながらも時に痛々しく、切なくなるほどのやさしさ。
　日常でついやりきれなくて空を仰いでしまう人、自分の居場所を模索している人、世間との距離を感じてしまう人に読んでほしい本です。あったかくて、ホロリときますよ。

　いやいや、素晴らしい作品です。
　ファっサードという名前の店とそこに集うものたちの人間模様を書いた連作短編。
　ファッサードが人々の拠り所となっているて、そこに集う人たちはやっぱりどこか退廃的であるのだが、それでも前を向いて生きているというか、生きているその一瞬、突然に感じる苦い痛みだとか孤独だとかを絶妙な筆致で丁寧に書き出していくことに成功している。
　お勧め。

　あとがきには1990年3月から2年間にわたって書き始めたとかかれている。16編の短編による連作小説集。
　ステージはファッサードという若者向けのナイトクラブ。出演者はＤＪや従業員たち、常連の「わたし」や女の子たち。米軍基地が近くにあるためか、ハーフも多い。10ページくらいの長さで、とても読みやすい。
　人間たちが雑然としていて、みだらな部分もありそうな感じがするが、まったくない。そこが鷺沢文学の大きな特徴だ。「白い紙をレイプする煙草の先を凝視した。（「Nothing Will Be It Was」）」というようなトゲのある表現もたまにはあるだけだ。ベッドシーンなどひとかけらもない。
クラブの常連になって、一歩踏み込んで知り合いになった人たちのスケッチといえるのだろうか。なぜなら、「わたし」は登場人物たちの誰からも名前を呼びかけられないだ。どこまで読んでも「わたし」なのだ。つまりどこまでいってもお客としての一線が微妙に残っている。それがゆえにセックスの場面までは至らず、「知り合い」のスタンスから踏み込めていないのだろう。寂しいけれど、好奇心があるけれど、ベタつくようなのはウザイ、深入りして縛られるのはイヤ、だから程々のところにいる。その代わり、批評と比喩の巧みさで小説は構成される。
　解説を北方謙三が請け負っているが、そのタイトルが「小説の言葉」。まさにレトリックで勝負しているという指摘だ。「無国籍の青年群像」を巧みに「小説の言葉」で構成する作家を「この作家の、今後は気になる」として「やりきれないほどの切なさを抱えたままほほえんでいる」「後姿の孤独」を見て取っている。踏み込めない青年たち、そして作家自身。彼らに北方は戸惑ってみせているが、作家の将来をこの時点ですでに予測し、案じたのではなかっただろうか。
