主要登場人物の一人、雌雄同体生命のノルヴァの存在が抹消され、関連するシーンが削除されており、約100ページ程本編が短くなっています。
買うんだったら、講談社版か、朝日ソノラマ版を買いましょう。

遠い未来の、宇宙で人類が惑星に住む時代の物語です。
若い男女が、駆け落ちする。
場所は、地球から何万光年もの遠い星へ向けて。

「火の鳥」では、たいてい強欲な権力者たちが永遠の命の源である火の鳥の生き血を躍起になって求める。
地球では、高校生だった少女が、主人公になっている。
本編は、そこがほかの作品とは違う。
異色なんです。

永遠の命なんて、もてないんですよね。
人間だって、それが出来ないから虫や鳥のようにすべての生き物は恋をして結婚して、子孫を残す。
自分の分身であり、愛する人の分身を。

近親相姦を主人公がすることになるのですが、そんな非常な状況でもひたむき、というかキャラクターに勢いがありますね。

ストーリーの中にいくつかの謎がありますが!、それもまた、深みが増している感じです。

手塚さんはハリウッド映画のようなエンターテイメント性を大切にしている。
前半の3ページぐらいは、コマワリが、大変に映画的。
映画のようなラブシーン。

短い中に、多くのことが詰まっています。
密度の濃い作品ですよね。

　無人の星に駆け落ちした夫婦の話。星についてまもなく夫は無くなるが、子供がやがて生まれる。その子やさらに孫と交配を繰り返し主の保存を図る。

　女性が生まれないために、ムーピーなる不定形生物を人間の女性のように形作り、人間のような生き物として、駆け落ち夫婦の種は保存され、やがて滅びる。

　なんとも哀しい物語です。
