5.0 out of 5 stars 未完の大作『火の鳥』とは何か, 2004/4/18
「漫画の神様」と謳われた手塚 治虫がライフワークにして取り組んだ作品がこの『火の鳥』である。

『火の鳥』とは一体どういった存在なのか、その答えは「未来編」の中に集約されているように思う。

『火の鳥』は、「輪廻転生」的な宗教観とSFとヒューマンドラマが複雑に織りなした、壮大な世界観を表現した漫画作品群であり、まさに手塚　治虫がその生涯を漫画に捧げた魂の結晶体であり、単なる漫画という枠を超えて現代に生きる我々にも今なお警鐘を鳴らす不滅の作品である。

　手塚治虫氏の世界に引きずり込まれてゆく昨今。これまた生命の偉大さと刹那さを感じることのできる、シリーズ第二編、未来編。
　やはり、アニメーターの先駆たる彼の作品は、素晴らしいですね。

　科学の最先端を操る人物でさえ、生命を試験管の中では創造できても、その生命を一度試験管から取り出すと、もろくも消滅してしまう。

　ところが、放射能に汚染された地球が、何千万年、何億年と経つうちに浄化され、海中にちょっとしたきっかけで細胞が生まれ、その細胞が生命体になり、植物から順番に陸上でも生活を始める。生命を繋ぐとともに、進化してゆくことになります。

　正にもう一度地球が“命の星”を繰り返しているかのような、壮大な物語です。

　やや、第一編の黎明編のシーンを転用したりして、黎明編とのかかわりを演出していますね。

　とにかく、医者でもあったかれの、生命への畏敬とでもいうのだろうか、医者としての限界なのだろうか、人類のわびしさのようなものも感じ取ることができましたね。

手塚先生の"LIFE WORK"と言われている代表作「火の鳥」。
1巻から13巻まである単行本は、一杯になった本棚のなかに
納まりやすく、私にとっては嬉しいサイズです。

「火の鳥」は、どの作品も大好きで、
全て紹介したいのが本音ですが、ここでは第2巻について書きます。

2巻は第1巻、「黎明編」(古代)よりも、ずっっと後(未来)の話。
人類存続の危機に、火の鳥によって重過ぎる使命を与えられた
男の物語です。

たった独りで全てを背負った若者は、残酷なほど孤独な時間を、
もがくように埋めようとします。

一瞬で滅びた世界。それでも尚、新たな生命の誕生を待つ男と、
それを見守る火の鳥。恐ろしく巨大な時が、読んでいる側にも
伝わってきます。

その使命を自分が任されたら?最後まで遂行しなければならない…
でも、"最後"っていつ???狂いたくても、狂えない。死にたくても
死ねない。考えただけでも恐い…。
と言うより、こんなことを考えられる手塚先生と、同じ時代に
存在出来たことに感謝。
