あやしい探検隊のことは、椎名誠が一番の売れっ子のため特に宣伝に一役買い、それが文人たちを中心とする男どものアウトドアレジャーのサークルであることはよく知られるようになった。
椎名のエッセイによく「林（リン）さん」が登場する。モンゴルにあやしい探検隊が行ったとき、みなさんの胃袋を一手に引き受けた。
モンゴルは馬の国である。パオとかいうテントの生活が伝統としてある。
馬糞は燃料として使う。その馬糞のそばで調理をするとどうしても？　馬糞も食材になってしまうらしい。その辺のことは椎名のエッセイで読むとして、アウトドアで腹をすかした男どもの胃袋を満足させるこの料理人についてはなんとなく頭の片隅に引っかかっていた。
それが、本屋の本棚で「もしや？」という本を見つけ、手にしたらズバリ正解だった。
林（はやし）さんは、金持ち文人たちのお抱えコックではない。彼自身がシブイ釣り人であった。対等のお仲間であった。
それで、椎名さんから「次は林さんだよ」といわれたわけだ。
彼らの周りにはすご腕の編集者もゴロゴロいるだろう。本作りには素人でもそれは心配ない。
林さんは、少し自分の来歴を語り、あやしい探検隊の体験が書かれ、そして、料理人として彼の信念を少し、そして真骨頂のオリジナルのアウトドアのレシピが次々と語られることになる。
「チャーハン」は中華料理のアイデンティティであり、元中華料理人としての林（リン）さんのアイデンティティである。
とてもとてもシブイシブイ、味のあるエッセイ集である。みなさん、よーく味わいましょう。
