　ハウス名作劇場が消滅してしまった今、乙女の通過儀礼としての少女小説の存在価値を今一度、高めたい。この本は少女小説カタログとして、初心者からその道の有段者（？）まで満足出来る内容ではないかと思う。個人的には、筆者と友人が「アンとダイアナ」（赤毛のアンシリーズ）、「レベッカとエンマ・ジェーン」（少女レベッカ）の友情の在り方について比較しながら言及している箇所が最も共感出来た。

作者が昔読んだ、いわゆる「家庭小説」のストーリーの紹介とそれにまつわるエピソード。「赤毛のアン」、「少女パレアナ」など有名なものから、あまり知られていない作品の紹介も。この本がきっかけで角川書店で家庭小説シリーズが再版されたとか。 私はこの本で知った「リンバロストの乙女」、愛読しています。このタイプの本って、一回読んで終わり、ではなくて、折にふれ何度も読み返したくなるものですね。
