　１２歳の洋介少年と、海洋生物学者の父親とのパゴパゴ島での生活風景は、早朝からの電車通勤の時間を癒してくれる。イルカのブルーとホワイトチップ、そしてプレシオザウルスの赤ちゃんＣＯＯが並んで泳ぐ姿が目に見えるようだ。特にＣＯＯの飼育を始めた当時の父子の会話が私は好きだ。
　核実験の計画により、島に異変が起きてからのスリリングな展開も迫力満点で、ファンタジーとＳＦ的な要素が混在しているおもしろさがある。
　この作品のよさを子どもたちに伝えたいが、小学生には難しい表現が多い。そういう方には、レンタルビデオのアニメ「遠い海から来たＣＯＯ」（ＶＨＳ）がおすすめ。まだ、ＤＶＤにはなっていないようです。

一番最初に読んだ時は、涙が止まりませんでした。内容は「ありえな~い！」ことなのですが、この本は、ファンタジ-です。純粋でいられる憧れから、この本をず~っと本棚の一番いい場所においてあります。（さすがに１０年以上も経つと黄ばんでますが・・。）
異国の土地で暮らす母親のいない１２才の男の子洋助は、ピレシオザウルスの末裔であるＣＯＯの誕生にめぐり合い、ともに歩み”心情”をはぐくみ、世間を知り、成長、決断、勇気と、本の内容を思い出すだけでもジ-ンときます。
ドラえもんのエピソ-ドにある、のびた君とピ-スケのお話と、このお話とどっちが先だったのでしょうね？私は、どちらも好きです。

恐竜プレキシオザウルスの子供の母親代りになった少年・洋介。とにかく彼の純粋さ、ひたむきさにホロリときます｡途中から、フランスの核実験実施に絡んで諜報機関SDECEとかが出てくると？！という感じになってしまうのですが・・・。少年と彼を取り巻く生き物達（犬・イルカそしてＣＯＯ）との関係がなぜか心に響きます｡
