焚き火と酒、そして仲間。
これだけそろえば、旨いもんは旨いし、旨くなくても旨くなる。
わいわい与太話で楽しい時もあるし、焚き火を見ながら黙りこくる時もある。
雨が降り、風が吹き、蚊に襲われても仲間と囲む焚き火は楽しいのである。
本書に出会ってから始めたキャンプ。
一生続けるのだろうな。
だから、本書は私のキャンプ携行本です。

筆者が悪友達と過ごした、辺境の地でのキャンプ生活を書く。
シリーズ物だが、個人的にはシリーズ第一作のこの作品が一番面白かった。
いい年した大人達の愉快なキャンプ生活が、軽妙な文章と沢野ひとし氏のイラストでより魅力あふれるものに。

本当のアウトドアに必要なのは、道具や場所、まして電気や水洗トイレなどではなく共に楽しめる仲間だということを実感。不自由を楽しむことが本来の姿であろう。

男たちが野山、海に出かけて、焚き火をして酒を飲んで馬鹿騒ぎすることを書いた本。ただそれだけの事ですが、これがなんとも面白い。こんな事を一冊の本にしてしまう椎名誠は天才だと思いました。この本が出てから、東ケト会(東日本なんでもけとばす会)のコピー会が日本全国いたるところにできたと言います。私もその一人でした。

当時日本は、アウトドアブームでした。これを読んでアウトドアに興味を持った人も多かったのではないでしょうか。これを読むと山や海に出かけたくなります。
ああ、男っていいもんです。
