イメージがふくらむような、あたたかいタッチの絵が素敵だなと思いました。
読んでいくごとに、主人公といっしょに旅をしているような、もしくは主人公になって旅をしているような気持ちになります。
ページ数は多いです。ふつう、見開きで10とか15くらいでお話が終わると思うのですが、、、長いです。目で追うだけでも（口で読まずに)15分はかかります。
そのぶん、いろいろな情景を想像させられます。

今から20年前（1985年)初版のようですが、このころにすでに自然に対して警鐘を鳴らしていたということにおどろきます。

いわむらかずおさんの絵本に、とがり山のぼうけんシリーズがあります。いわむらさんの絵本は、イメージされやすい絵本でないことが多く、それがなによりのすてきな意外な魅力であると思います。今回のこの「ひとりぼっちのさいしゅうれっしゃ」は、表紙の絵からイメージする固定観念や「こんなんなんかなあ~」というのが、いっきにふきとぶます。動物の語りのあとに見開きいっぱいのおおきな壮大な動物たちの絵、絵というよりむしろ表情というたほうがいいかもしれません。ページをめくっていくうちに、いつのまにか、自分自身もその列車にのっているかのようにも感じることができるようにも思います。とにかく、動物の表情がいとおしい、本文の内容は深く考えさせられるものですが、絵を味わうという観点からでも、小さなお子さんと一緒に味わえるのではないかと思いました。その年齢、そのときどきの心の状態で、ふと手にとって感じ味わえる作品だと思います。読み終えたあと、森って、山って、わたしたち人間って、「なんか・・、してきゃなきゃいかんのとちゃうん、ほんまに」とも感じるの方もいるのではないでしょうか。私もそんな１人になったような気がします。

すごく、力強くていい絵です。いのししが列車にのりこんでくるところなど目に焼きついた映画の１シーンのように何度見ても感激します。同様に、くまとさるたち・・・ファンタジーが力を持つとしたら、この本のようでなければならない・・と久々に感動しました。何度読んでもお話に発見があり、完成された職人技の絵の細部に驚愕します。誠実に生きることの喜びを思い出しました。
