タイトルを見て、グッと感じるものがあったら、もうページをめくりはじめたも同然。事件の主役は、「ちゃいろで ふっくらとしていて、ちょっとばかりソーセージのよう」な、うんち。被害者は、もぐらくん。ある日、土からひょっこり顔を出したとたん、あたまにポットリ落ちてきた。でも、目が悪いから犯人がわからない。憤慨したもぐらくんは、頭にナゾのうんちを乗せたまま、犯人捜しにのりだした。通りがかった動物たちに「きみ、ぼくのあたまに うんち おとさなかった？」と、尋ねるが、みんな「ピシャッ！」「ラタッタッタ！」「ピュルッ！」と、うんちを実演（？）して、ぬれぎぬをはらしていく。
動物たちのうんちは、どれも実に個性豊か。絵本をめくりながら、「じゃあ、いったいコレはだれのうんち？」と、ついつい一緒に犯人捜しにはまってしまう。生き生きとしたタッチと、ダイナミックな構図が光るエールブルッフの絵、関口裕昭の訳も秀逸。とくに動物たちの「うんち」を解説するくだりは、みごと！ 子どもから大人まで楽しめる。（嶋田あひる）
