5.0 out of 5 stars 上巻をこえる、おもしろさ、あたたかさ, 2004/9/20
　下巻から主人公が入学する、バレエ学校のディティールの、美しくもすがすがしいことといったらないです。舞台の場面も登場人物も、上巻以上に、はなやかになります。そして、主人公にふりかかる幸運は、まるで『小公女』の、屋根裏の小部屋でお隣さんが用意したごちそうを発見するシーンのようなゴージャスさ。なのに、ちっとも嫌味がないのです。

　とはいえ、傷ついたこどもの気持ちを描くのも、まったくおろそかにはなっていません。こちらも上巻以上。下巻ではさらに、嫉妬される立場が、やさしい主人公を苦しめます。けれど、いちばんの読みどころは、母親とのある一件だと私は思います。この辛さ、いたたまれなさ、分かる！と、すごく切ない気持ちになりました。

　もうひとつ、下巻で忘れられないのが、主人公の姉。主人公の敵役、意地悪な美少女としても、上巻以上に活躍しますが、一方で、もう一人の傷ついたこどもとして、そしてまた一人の女性として、こまやかに、きっちりと描かれていています。特に、後半での内面の葛藤と成長ぶりは、ほとんど主人公以上です。

　そして、愛にみちたエンディング。おすすめです。

長く険しい道は誰もが歩んでゆく道です。ここに描かれる姉弟の道もそれはそれは長く険しい。涙あふれることも、笑みこぼれることも絶え間ない、感動の途切れることがない物語です。これはもしかしたら子供のためだけの本ではなく、いつの間にか、かつての夢を諦めてしまった大人のための本なのかも知れません。ぜひお子様とともにお読みになること、また何か夢を諦めかけたときに手にとって見ることをお勧めいたします。

　デューンは、「運がいい」と言われるように、人との出合いにも恵まれ、才能を認められてどんどんバレエダンサーの階段をのぼっていく。
　姉のクリスタルはそんな弟に嫉妬し意地悪をする。そして、その意地悪に自分自身が傷つく。反抗や挫折の少女の複雑な心をうまく描いて読みひたってしまいます。下巻ではクリスタルが主人公の感さえする。
　お話そのものは、バレエダンサーを夢見てけわしく遠い道を成功の階段を一歩一歩あがっていくというものだけれど、やっぱり登場人物が面白いんですよね。
　特に、両親はいろいろ考えされられてしまいました。大人の方ぜひ。
