~女用心棒が主人公の守り人シリーズも大好きですが、チャグム皇太子が主人公の旅人シリーズもたまらなく面白いです。チャグムは上等の衣を身にまとい、臣下にかしづかれ、世の中を観ずに傲慢に生きる皇太子ではありません。前作より成長し、１５歳の成人の議を終えて大人への第一歩を踏み出したばかりだというのに、父である帝やヨゴ皇国を支配下に置こうとす~~る大国の板挟みに合い、待ち受ける罠の中に飛び込まなければならなくなります。大切に思っている人を失い、身動きのできない状況に追い込まれ、それでも国の民を思う、前編を通して切なさに胸を締め付けられる、そんなすばらしい作品です。~

人物がとても魅力的です。ちょっとした仕草や言葉にその人物の人間性がよく表れていてうならされます。

前作『虚空の旅人』では、冷酷無慈悲なサンガル王国の王子や王女との対比をからめて、理想と現実のはざまでもがきながら、自分なりのやり方で皇太子として生きていこうと決意を固めるチャグムが描かれていました。

本作では、さらにそれを推し進め、母国を征服しようと狙う大国タルシュ国の王子との対決が描かれています。理想だけを見つめていればよかった少年時代から、現実との兼ね合いを考えながら民を守り国を守ってしたたかに生きる、チャグムの青年時代の始まりです。

今後、女用心棒バルサを主人公とした＜守り人＞シリーズとチャグムを主人公とした＜旅人＞シリーズに分かれて物語は進むようですが、最後には双方のシリーズが融合する雄大な物語になるのでしょうか。とても楽しみです。

　『精霊の守人』でバルサに守られていたチャグムの物語。
新ヨゴ皇国の帝である父に疎まれ、暗殺されそうになりながら、１５歳になったチャグム皇太子は、英明さと肩入れしたくなるような魅力を持って自分の生きる道を見つけていく・・・。　

　海賊の頭領である少女セナ。帝の『狩人』であるが、チャグムを守るジン。タルッシュ帝国の手先となってチャグムを誘拐したヨゴ人ヒュウゴ。多彩な登場人物も面白く、チャグム皇太子の心の揺れが丁寧に描かれていて読み応えがあった。

　海を泳いでいくチャグム皇太子の前に広がる世界の物語に期待せずにいられない。
