「０歳児にはまだ早いかなぁ」と思いつつ本屋で手に取った所、
色づかいの見事さに自分自身が惚れ込み、即購入を決めました。

うちは産まれてまもなく絵本の読み聞かせを始めましたが、
この本には比較的早い段階で興味を示しました。
半年経った今では腕をバンバン叩き付けながら喜びを表すように
なりました。ちなみに、息子がはじめて破った本がこれです。

「はらぺこあおむし」には違うサイズのものが３つありますが、
個人的には一番大きなサイズを選ぶ事をオススメします。
小さい方が携帯に便利だよ、という意見もあるでしょうが、
この絵本の良さである色づかいの妙は大きいサイズの方が
子供にも感動が伝わりやすいはず、というのが理由です。

「はらぺこあおむし」は、人気のある定番絵本なので、
さまざまなサイズの絵本が出ています。

ミニエディション　１０×１３センチ（お出かけ向き）
ボードブック　１３×１８センチ（めくりやすい丈夫な造本）
ビックブック　４２×５８センチ（みんなで楽しめる大型）
普通　２２×３０センチ（一般的に買われていると思われるもの）

本の内容は、とてもよいので、お勧めです！

　この名作にいまさらという気もしますが、少しは話題を付け加えられそうなので、一言、二言。
　とにかくよくできています。まず卵からかえって、大きくなって、蝶になるという成長物語そのものが、こどもたちにとって魅力的です。

　次に、その途中経過のできごとがうまく配置されている。食べすぎで腹痛になったり、葉っぱ(薬？）を食べて回復したり、さなぎになったりと、ハラハラ・ドキドキ・ワクワクさせてくれます。とりわけ比重が重いのが、食べることをテーマにしたくだりです。ストーリーが分からない幼児でも、この食べ物リストを見るだけで大喜びでしょう。

　しかもこの一貫したストーリーが、ページをめくるたびに新しい世界が広がる、変化に富んだ絵で展開していきます。細部までよく考えられていて、見返すたびに発見がある。製本上の仕掛けも、楽しい。
　これはまさに、子供たちのためのＲＰＧなのだと思います。
