鶏のロージーが散歩に出かけます。
そのあとをキツネが襲いかかろうとつけて行きます。
でも、キツネはレーキを踏んづけたり、干草の山に突っ込んだり・・。
最後には、蜂に追われて尻尾を巻いて逃げてしまいます。
一方ロージーは、終始のんびりと散歩を楽しんで自分の小屋に帰ってきます。

この絵本は、ほとんど文字はありませんが、テンポが素晴らしく楽しい絵本です。
ロージーのちょっととぼけた表情が私は大好きです。
｢絵を楽しむ」ことのできる魅力的な1冊です。

にわとりのロージーを狙っているキツネのことは、お話には書いてありません。でも、一通り読み終えると、何も言わなくても子供はちゃんと面白いところが分かっているのです。子供が気付くまで、キツネのことは何も言わずにお話を読んであげてください。
絵もとてもかわいくて、心に残る絵本になると思います。

この本は文字がとても少ない本で、イラストがメインにお話を語ってくれます。あわれなきつねのロージーに対するプランは文字には表されていませんが、イラストで面白おかしく伝えられているところがだいすきです。でも一番この本で好きなのは、時間がゆったりと流れていること。この本を読むたびになぜか懐かしい気分になるのは私だけでしょうか。
