この本の良い所は、知識を押しつけていないところ。
ニャーンと言ったのは誰か？最後の最後に、子犬は知るのですが、でも解答を文章で説明はしていない。けれども、必ず子どもにもわかる。
もちろん、ニャーンというのは猫だ。けれども、それを「ニャーン＝猫」とは（厳密に言うと）書いていない。

三匹の猫の話しも、厳密に言うと、ナゼ白くなったのか、黒くなったのかは書いていない。
この本を読みながら、想像している子どもの目を見ていると、嬉しくなる。
この本を読みながら、読み手（大人）は絶対に「なぜか？」を教えないで欲しい。
子どもの想像力と、わくわく感をそのまま見守ってあげて欲しいと願う。

こんなに素晴らしい絵本に会えてとても嬉しいです。

旧ソ連の絵本作家、ステーエフの２作品、｢ニャーンといったのはだーれ｣ と、｢三びきのこねこ｣ を収録した絵本です。
まず、｢ニャーンといったのはだーれ｣ では、こいぬが、ニャーンという声を聞いて、その声のもち主をさがすお話です。

おんどりやねずみやかえるなど、いろいろな動物に会い、その鳴き声を確かめ、最後にニャーンといったのは誰かをみつけます。
｢三びきのこねこ｣ では、くろ、しろ、ちゃいろの三びきのこねこが、ねずみを追いかけながら、しろくなったり、くろくなったり、びしょぬれになったりするお話です。

やさしくユーモラスなストーリーが、ちょうど動物の鳴き声や色に興味を持つ年齢の子ども達にぴったりで、楽しく読み聞かせのできる絵本です。
